What Is a Chemical Peel?

Exactly what it sounds like! A chemical (low pH) solution is applied to the skin, causing the outermost layers to peel off, revealing newer, younger-looking skin below.

How Does It Work?

Chemical peels decrease the skin’s pH, loosening the connections between dead skin cells and causing them to peel off. The process triggers exfoliation and stimulates new cell growth to reveal a smoother, glowing complexion. Chemical peels also thicken the epidermis, increase dermal volume, and stimulate collagen.

What Is an Enzyme Peel?

Just like chemical peels, enzyme peels fight premature aging by sloughing off the top layer of your skin to reveal newer skin below. But instead of a chemical solution, these peels are made from fruit enzymes that are known to dissolve dead cells on the skin’s surface. Enzyme peels are gentle and a great option for those with easily irritated or sensitive skin.

How Does It Work?

Enzymes from fruits like pomegranate, pumpkin, blueberries, and pineapple are potent but non-abrasive exfoliants. When applied to the skin, they help dissolve the proteins that hold dead skin cells in place, removing the top layer of skin. Enzyme peels are gentler on the skin than chemical peels, but in no way less effective.

Hands off! It might be tempting to peel, rub, or pick away the dead skin as it sheds, but it’s important to let it peel naturally.

Your skin will be very sensitive to the sun (temporarily), so we highly recommend using a broad-spectrum sunscreen following your treatment and to avoid sun exposure as much as possible.
