The vast majority of Dermal Filler is currently based on naturally occurring sugar molecule called Hyaluronic Acid. Hyaluronic Acid plays a variety of crucial roles in hydration of various tissues and as a cushioning agent. Young, healthy skin contains a lot of Hyaluronic Acid. Natural ageing and sun exposure reduce the amount in your body and cause the skin to lose structure and volume.
While it has a lot of medical applications, pure Hyaluronic Acid is a poor candidate for correcting facial volume deficits because it is rapidly degraded by the body.
To better serve multiple aesthetic needs, it is reformulated in a special way to prevent this natural, but unwanted degradation. This is achieved through cross-linking of various Hyaluronic Acid molecules, which leads to a much longer lasting effect.
The application of the facial filler to a particular region of the face also depends on its molecular weight and degree of cross-linking. These factors contribute to its viscosity and how well it is deposited in the skin.
Despite the molecules being cross-linked the Filler is nonetheless degraded by the body over time. This is a completely natural and harmless process, as the body treats Hyaluronic Acid as its own tissue without significant foreign body reaction.
A small needle is used to deposit Facial Filler, such as Juvederm Ultra of Juvederm Voluma into the region of interest. Your clinician will decide what layer of the skin the filler will be placed into. Once the Filler is deposited into tissues it absorbs surrounding fluid and expands. This expansion of the gel is immediate and results in resolution of the wrinkles and folds above it. Some of the Filler expands faster than others, and this will influence how fast you will see the results.
Facial Filler shows a long safety record and are approved by FDA. There are no significant long-term complications associated with use of Dermal Fillers, such as Juvederm Ultra or Juvederm Voluma. Hyaluronic Acid is a naturally occurring molecule in the body, and does not cause a foreign body reaction.
This is truly a lunch break procedure. After the clinician does an assessment and determines which area to inject, it takes approximately 20-30 minutes to administer depending on the area being injected.
The results are immediate most of the time, as the Filler rapidly expands after they are placed inside the skin. Some of the Filler will continue to expand after it is placed and full results are usually evident within a few days after injection.

Two factors play an important role whether you will look natural after your LGS Facial Filler injection. First is based on which gel is selected to best suit your needs. Young skin is smooth and elastic because it contains large amounts of Hyaluronic Acid. As we age, the amount of HA in the skin gradually diminishes. As a result, the skin becomes dryer, thinner and more wrinkled. The filler products which are used at our clinic are a long-lasting but not permanent synthetic form of Hyaluronic Acid. The gel mimics the naturally occurring substance by adding volume to the skin. When the filler is injected under the surface of the skin, the gel adds volume and smoothes facial lines and folds.
Different Filler is used for specific areas of the face. For instance, the product which will be best suited to improve the cheeks is not quite the same as the ones that are used for more superficial lines or the lips.
Filler is often used to correct the “nasolabial folds” which occur from the wing of the nose to the angle of the mouth, and “marionette lines” which are furrows just below and to the side of the mouth.
The contours of the lips can be enhanced to the desired level by accentuating the vermillion border, giving the lips more volume.
Cheeks which have become flattened by the aging process can be lifted beautifully using Filler.
Very deep wrinkles and some types of acne scars cannot typically be treated with this material. Very superficial wrinkles are often difficult to correct.
The treatment typically takes about 15-45 minutes depending on the area treated and the number of syringes used. Filler is injected using a very thin needle into the skin. Some results are visible immediately.
Hyaluronic Acid Filler is a natural material, so they dissolve with time. In the event that you feel uncertain about the desired result or there is an unexpected complication, there is a medication called hyaluronidase which can be of assistance in dissolving the solution.
Yes. If you are on any medication that causes bruising, you should stop taking them 3-5 days before treatment. This may include ASA (aspirin), Advil, Motrin and other prescription medication.
Please check with your injector and/or your family doctor prior to discontinuing any medication that is prescribed for you.
Also, some vitamins such as Vitamin E, Ginkco, Garlic, Ginseng, St. Johns Wort, and Omega 3’s can increase bruising.
BOTOX®/Dysport and facial filler are frequently done together to achieve superior aesthetic and anti-aging results. Facial filler and BOTOX®/Dysport can be done at the same time depending on the area being treated.
Neuromodulators, like BOTOX® or Dysport affects the muscles under skin and dermal filler replace the loss of volume, therefore depending on the area the use of both can yield the best results.
Depending on brand, your Facial Filler results may last anywhere from 6-15 months. After the fillers are degraded by the body, additional injections may be needed to maintain youthful appearance of your face.
The most common side effect reported by patients after Facial Filler injections are bruising. The degree of bruising is highly variable and depends on individual anatomy. Most of the bruising can be covered with makeup immediately after the procedure. Icing and application of arnica gel help with healing after the procedure.
There is usually minimal to mild discomfort associated with injections of the Facial Filler. Many of the Filler on the market today contain lidocaine which significantly decreases the unpleasant sensation associated with injections. Additionally, lidocaine cream is used topically to numb the surface of the skin prior to injection. Ice is also utilized during injections to relieve tenderness and swelling.
There are certain limitations to your activities after receiving Facial Filler injections such as Juvederm Ultra or Juvederm Voluma. It is not recommended to exercise, touch or massage areas of injections and to expose skin to hot temperatures for at least 48 hours.
If you have an active infection in the area where Facial Filler will be injected you should wait until the infection resolves. Some clients may develop individual hypersensitivity to any ingredient in Dermal Filler formulation. If you have certain disorders such as systemic lupus syndrome you should not be receiving Facial Filler injections.
Minimal to mild bruising is the most common expected side effect associated with Facial Filler injections. If Juvederm Ultra or Juvederm Voluma is incorrectly injected it may lead to development of bulges and bumps under the skin, however they can be quickly dissolved with Hyaluronidase. A small amount is injected directly into the skin to add volume and restore hydration. HA is naturally integrated into the tissue and allows for the free passage of important nutritive elements like oxygen and hormones. The product will also bind water, which adds to the filling effect.
